Lutz Huelle has created his brand in 2000 with his business partner David Ballu. His talent is noticed by fashion professionals who award him the prestigious Andam price in France, price that he will win again in 2002. Lutz style is nonconformist, creating clothes whose original cut is carefully studied, emphasizing the luxurious materials that he uses.
Who are you?
My name is Lutz, I am German from Köln. I studied at the St Martin School of London. I came to Paris in 1995 to work with Martin Margiela, then I created my label in 2000.
How did you start in fashion?
Through a general interest for pop culture in general. Music, movies, Tv, art, fashion, it's all related. I have always been fascinated by pop bands, the way they dress and how they create a unique identity through their looks.
How would you define your style?
It's a kind of decontextualisation. I take the signs and details of different wardrobes - sportswear, evening, casual, office wear - then I mix them to create a new style and clothes both simple and complicated at the same time.
What inspires you?
Everyday life, the street, my friends, movies...
Where do you manufacture your products?
It depends on their technicity. For example, knitwear is principally done in Italy, silk mousseline in France. Structured pieces in thick wool are done in Hungary. My production team always looks for each type of product the best supplier at the best price. I'm very careful about it. I always want the prices in store to be at the right level.
Where can we find your collection?
I'm on your website since this season ! But also in high end multi-brands everywhere in the world.
